Chatting with: Trus'me

David Wolstencroft  AKA Trus'me has dominated the house music scene over the past few years with the success of his debut LPs 'Working Nights' and 'In The Red' aswell as running his own imprint Prime Numbers and headlining DJ shows across the globe. In the interview he reveals his new identity "David James" where he will be putting out more techno orientated records and speaks of much more.

Tell us a little about what you've been doing lately, we hear your working on a techno record?

This fall, I’ll be producing under an "alter ego" David James as I head into more techno-oriented direction, recruiting Marcel Dettmann, Ben Klock and others to remix material from my previous albums for a flurry of remixes highlighting a new direction for the label.. I’ll also be showcasing a new party concept, 1 Red Light, more info here www.1redlight.com which will help showcase new techno orientated artists on Prime Numbers. I'm currently living in Singapore where there is no recession haha. There is so much opportunity to do something different here and begin a scene and I want to be part of the main drive for this.

We know your hometown Manchester has been quite influential on your sound, has anything else influenced you musically recently?

Yes 100% I mean I listened to all kinds of music, as a youngster but there is something special in the air on Manchester musically. Clubbing and buying music there in the heart of the city it’s only a matter of time that you're exposed to all kinds of good music. Touring the world has opened my eyes to various scenes and sound systems that have heavily affected the way in which I have produced my forthcoming productions. I've come full circle from producing complex LP's and working within high end musicians in a studio, to now a simple digital set up where I can really twist and manipulate the sound that I want.

What is your studio setup like now? Has the gear or process you use to make music changed much form the early days?
I recently sold the whole studio in my move to Singapore. I have recorded endless productions with my old setup for years to come, it's just a matter of arranging and mixing what I all ready worked on over the past 4 years. With a digital set-up I have instant recall and after pain staking years of setting up studios and fixing problems and what not, it's bliss to just click - click and get on with it.

Tell us about your record label Prime Numbers.
Prime Numbers is an open book, it's not a mass out put but I try to release music I think is worthy of the process involved in putting vinyl out. I want to be confident it's not just for now, but a sound which is timeless. I put great attention to detail in the pressing, mastering and material I use to create the final product I put to market. The label will change sound constantly, I don't want it to be put in any pigeon hole. For now Techno is my love and you will see this heavily in 2012.

Your visiting Australia later this month, what can we expect to hear?
This will be my 7th visit to Melbourne to play, I've been coming every year now for the last 4 years working my way through the clubs to build a name over here. Melbourne really is my second home, I love it over there, I have a good set of friends who live, play and work there. This is maybe my 10th visit this year ;) always in and out just love it! The food, the wine the weather the atmosphere it's completely me. Sound wise I'll be playing to the crowd as I always do, what ever they are feeling I'll try and provide that vibe and throw a few curb balls along the way. Expect house to techno with lashings of disco and hip hop towards the end.

2 favourite records at the moment?
 1. Romanthony “Let me Show you Love” 2. Steve Silk Hurely Dub of “We got the Funk”. Honestly all the records I play are party starters, that’s they way I like to play.

What will happen next for Trus'me and Prime Numbers?
A move into the techno realm and new productions for my self under 'David James' of course with the occasional Trus'me production. We have 2 new artists I will be pushing in 2012 and excited to see how the Prime Numbers faithful will react to these new rising stars of Manchester.
